WELCOME TO STIFTELSEN EMIGRANTSKIPET RESTAURATION

This foundation was established as a result of an idea and a dream by local enthusiasts with a genuine interest in history and a passionate relation to boatbuilding. It was formed in 2007, and our first goal is to build a ship as identical as possible to the original sloop Restauration, one of the most famous sailing vessels in Norwegian history. Ryfylke Trebåtbyggjeri at Finnøy in Rogaland has been awarded this important task, and they have taken on to build the vessel in fully accordance with the traditional methods and materials used at that time.

Few events in Norwegian history have had more significance than the story about Restauration. It marks the beginning of the huge emigration waves to America taking place during the century that followed. The main purpose of the foundation is to share knowledge about this important part of migration history. Upon completion, the sloop will serve as a floating center for information and adventures, and it will stand as a monument and a symbol of the first organized emigration to America.
